Case study 03 · Boba Licious

A DIY store rebuilt into R482K in sales.

Boba Licious was growing fast and held back by a self-built website. Three weeks later it was a proper WooCommerce business with a wholesale route — and the analytics did something unusual.

The client

Who is Boba Licious?

A specialist supplier of premium bubble tea ingredients in Vanderbijlpark, founded by Claudia Bronwyn Strydom and sourcing directly from Taiwan — tapioca pearls, popping boba, fruit purees, syrups, tea leaves and accessories. The range is Halal certified and sells to home enthusiasts and to commercial buyers: cafes, restaurants and bubble tea shops. There is also a wholesale programme with its own pricing and product range.

The challenge

What was holding it back?

A self-built website, in a market that is unusually driven by how things look. Bubble tea is a visual product sold to a visual audience, and the store had to carry both retail and wholesale customers without confusing either.

A DIY storefront

Self-built and doing its best, but not presenting an extensive catalogue with the clarity a growing supplier needed.

Two audiences, one shop

Home enthusiasts and commercial buyers want different things, different quantities and different pricing from the same catalogue.

Credibility in a visual market

Bubble tea culture is growing fast in South Africa and is heavily influenced by presentation and trust signals.

Nothing working for search

A store that cannot be found is a catalogue nobody reads, however good the products are.

The approach

What did we build?

A clean WooCommerce store with the wholesale route built in rather than bolted on, plus the SEO and hosting to keep it working after launch.

The rebuilt Boba Licious Vdbp store: a product-led homepage with the bubble tea range and a wholesale registration route
The store as it runs today — the full range presented by category, with wholesale registration built into the path rather than hidden behind an enquiry form.

A proper WooCommerce store

Structured product categories across the full range, built to present a large catalogue without overwhelming a first-time buyer.

Wholesale registration

A dedicated route for registered businesses, with their own pricing and product range, running alongside the retail store.

Search engine optimisation

The work that keeps traffic arriving after the launch bump fades, rather than relying on a burst of attention.

Managed hosting

Kept fast, updated and backed up, because a store that goes down on a Saturday costs real money.

The result

What did it produce?

R482,934 in net sales against R116,553 the year before — a 314% increase — with orders up 187% and 3,248 products sold across nine categories. Total sales passed R520K. The redesign did the converting, the wholesale route opened a second kind of customer, and the SEO is what kept it going.
