EMAIL SETUP: DESKTOP

When setting up a mail account on a mail application such as Outlook, Thunderbird or a mobile device you will need to provide the correct server name when creating your mail account on the device.

Typically a mail account is setup using mail.domainname for the incoming and outgoing server, how ever with the addition of enhanced security on mail applications you are required to provide the mail server name that matches the SSL certificate thats installed on the mail server.

To start with you will need to identify the mail server thats hosts your domain’s email. To do this, open a new browser tab and browse to http://mail.yourdomainname (use your actual domainname in the address bar)

The browser then perfoms a redirect to https://mailservername with the correct server name that hosts your mail domain. For this example we’ll assume that mail.yourdomainname redirects to https://bl4n1.zadns.co.za

Now copy the server name from the address bar, ie bl4n1.zadns.co.za and use these settings for your incoming and outgoing server when setting up your mail account.
